This is a list of Award Categories and a short description of the award and criteria for selection (most are self-evident). Please note that the overarching criteria for each of the awards is “Leadership” - as these are “Leadership Awards”. Leadership can be at any level: Executive to Front-Line personnel. Historically, the Innovative Applications Award has been presented to front-line government employees.
Not all categories are awarded each year and special categories are established to recognize outstanding leadership for a previously unspecified category.
Awards Committee: The Annual Awards Committee is composed of government and industry members, and is Co-Chaired by Art Chantker, President, Potomac Forum, Ltd., and Ken Touloumes, CEO, Touloumes Group.

Executive Leadership in Information Resources Management
Presented for outstanding executive leadership in government–wide Information Resources Management. The AFFIRM Executive Leadership Award has been presented annually since 1979 and is the highest and most prestigious AFFIRM award.
- Unquestionable and evident leadership at the Government-wide level.
- Executive Award presented to Executives (GS 15 and SES).
- Accomplishments must be well known by the community.
- Nominate an individual for this award
Legislative Leadership Award
Presented for outstanding Legislative Leadership in furthering government IT management. This award has been presented to members of the House, Senate, and staff.- Previous winners have been Congressman, Senators, and Staff Directors of Major Committees
- Nominate an individual for this award
Executive Leadership in Industry
Presented for superior leadership in business and technology while successfully coordinating challenges for the improvement and implementation of government-wide information technology resources.- Leadership and service has to be to the IT community, not just their company.
- For example, leadership positions in organizations or conferences.

Leadership in Acquisition & Procurement
Presented for excellence in government information services for acquisition and procurement improvement and effectiveness.- Leadership for government-wide initiatives or service.
- Nominate an individual for this award
Leadership in Service to the Citizen
Presented for excellence in management information technology for improved services to the citizen.- Leadership to help the citizens better appreciate the federal government or make the citizens life better or easier.
- Nominate an individual for this award
Leadershipin Service to the Country
Presented for excellence in government information services improvement or effectiveness on a national level by leveraging information for mission accomplishment- Historically, this award was presented to an Executive from the DoD or Military Service (military or civil service).
- Nominate an individual for this award
Leadership in Innovative Applications
Presented for superior leadership in innovative government business applications or systems.- This award is presented to “front line” government folks (usually at the mid to junior level for leadership accomplishments. This award is a “standard” category and also meets the board concern for presenting awards to “do’ers”.

Leadership in Service to the Government IT Community
Presented as a special recognition award for extraordinary service and improvement supporting Information Technology for human resources.Nominate an individual for this award
Leadership in Service Excellence
Presented for excellence and superior leadership in customer service to a specific community of customers which exemplifies service. (This was a new award category for 2004)Nominate an individual for this award
Leadership in e-Government
Presented for excellence in management of e-Government projects/programs/initiatives.Nominate an individual for this award
Other Leadership Categories:
A special category can be established to recognized outstanding leadership related to IT for which there is not an existing category.Nominate an individual for this award
