University Scholarships
The AFFIRM Education Committee is pleased to announce that in 2007, AFFIRM has formed partnerships with 6 Universities to provide scholarships to undergraduate students studying some aspect of information technology (IT). These Universities are also partnered with the Federal CIO Council to deliver Federal Executive IT Competencies through the CIO University (http://www.cio.gov) at the graduate level.
Partner Universities are:
Syracuse, George Mason, George Washington, Carnegie Mellon, LaSalle and the University of Maryland-University College
The goals of the scholarships are to:
- To provide opportunities for deserving undergraduate students to achieve a degree in IT that will serve as the base for a career or further education.
- Serve to fulfill AFFIRM's commitment to education and development of qualified people for IT careers in the federal marketplace.
Criteria for the scholarship:
- Must be a full-time student (12 credits or more)
- Must be a Junior or above
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must carry a minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Must major in some aspect of IT or related field
- Must have a letter of reference from a professor
- Scholarship is non-renewable
- Preference is to award to U.S. Citizens
- If chosen, the applicant is requested to attend AFFIRM's Luncheon Meeting to be recognized as a recipient, usually in January following the Scholarship awards.
Scholarship applications will be provided by the Universities; students should inquire in the financial aid office.
Lisa Winkler Memorial Scholarship
AFFIRM is proud to partner with the Federal CIO Council's IT Workforce Committee to award the Lisa Winkler Memorial Scholarship to deserving students at Edison High School. To honor Lisa's memory and her devotion to the support of IT education, this memorial scholarship helps graduates of Edison High School continue their education in information technology.
Criteria for the scholarship:
- Must be a graduating senior at Edison High, Alexandria, VA.
- Must have completed two full years at Edison High School.
- Must have been accepted at an accredited four-year college or university.
- Must carry a minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA by the end of the first semester, senior year.
- Have expressed interest in pursuing a career in IT, by writing an essay - 200 words maximum "Why I would like to pursue a career in information technology in the Federal Government".
- Positive consideration will be given to those applicants who are members of honor societies, demonstrate citizenship and service within the community, and/or exhibit leadership skills within the school or community. These qualities and/or accomplishments will enhance an applicant's standing in the evaluation process.
AFFIRM Endowment with Syracuse University
Donors who would like to contribute directly to the AFFIRM Endowment with Syracuse may do so by the following process:

Donors then select from the pull down menu and choose/designate their gift to: “School of Information Studies” and then in the open “gift to be used for” text box put “AFFIRM Scholarship fund” and otherwise just follow directions on the form.
AFFIRM Endowment with University of Maryland University College
Donors who would like to contribute directly to the AFFIRM Endowment with the Unversity of MD University College (UMUC) may do so by the following process:
