“How are you greening your agency?” will bring you up to speed on how agencies are managing the requirements of Executive Order 13514. Join us as we hear Senior Sustainability Officers across the federal government discuss their challenges, successes, opportunities and best practices in greening their agency.

You will hear about:

    John Conger John Conger

    Assistant Deputy Under Secretary for Installations & Environment, Department of Defense

    John Conger is the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations and Environment. In this position, he serves as the principal assistant and advisor to the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations and Environment, providing management and oversight for military installations world wide; and managing environmental, safety, and occupational health programs for the Department.

    Until June 2009, Mr. Conger served on the staff of Representative Chet Edwards, Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, where he served as Legislative Director and principal defense advisor for 8 ½ years. In addition to his work supporting Rep. Edwards' military construction initiatives, Mr. Conger focused on Rep. Edwards' efforts to improve military quality of life, increase military retiree benefits, pass record levels of veterans health care funding, and advance nuclear nonproliferation efforts. He also served as staff for the House Army Caucus, which Edwards co-chairs.

    Stephen Leeds Stephen Leeds

    Senior Counselor to the Administrator & Senior Sustainability Officer, GSA

    Stephen R. Leeds was appointed as Senior Counselor to the Administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration on August 10, 2009. As Senior Counselor, Leeds advises and assists the Administrator on a variety of GSA's enterprise initiatives. He also coordinates the activities of the Regional Administrators.

    Leeds has been designated the Senior Accountable Official for Recovery, placing him in charge of the agency's efforts to implement the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. He is also the Agency Senior Sustainability Officer, leading GSA's efforts under Executive Orders 13423 and 13514 to fulfill GSA's responsibilities and opportunities under those EOs as well as assisting GSA’s Federal agency customers with solutions to help them integrate sustainability throughout their agencies and achieve their sustainability goals.

    Michelle Moore Michelle Moore

    Federal Environmental Executive, Council for Environmental Quality

    Michelle Moore is the Obama Administration’s Federal Environmental Executive, and is responsible for promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship throughout the federal government’s operations. Housed within the White House Council on Environmental Quality, the Office stewards the implementation of President Obama’s Executive Order on Federal Sustainability (EO 13514) and the GreenGov initiative.

    Prior to joining CEQ, Michelle was Senior Vice President of Policy and Public Affairs at the U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit organization that developed and oversees the LEED certification system. She holds a Master’s of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a BA from Emory University.

    Rhea Suh Rhea Suh

    Assistant Secretary, Policy Management and Budget, DOI

    Rhea S. Suh was confirmed by the U.S. Senate and sworn into office as Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget at the Department of the Interior on May 19, 2009. President Obama nominated her for this position on March 25, 2009.

    In her current position, Assistant Secretary Suh provides overall policy guidance on a broad range of management and operational issues that directly affect the Interior Department’s ability to achieve its mission and retain its workforce. Chief among these issues are the Department’s budget, law enforcement and security management, human resources, and procurement. She also holds responsibility as the Department’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Human Capital Officer, and plays a vital role in shaping and implementing the Department’s achievements in human capital investment.

    Kateri Callahan Kateri Callahan

    President, Alliance to Save Energy (Moderator)

    Kateri Callahan brings more than 20 years of experience in policy advocacy, fundraising, coalition building, and organizational management to her position as the president of the Alliance to Save Energy, a non-government organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., whose mission is to advance energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment, and greater energy security. Serving as president of the Alliance since January 2004, Callahan leads a staff of more than eighty; oversees a budget of approximately $12 million annually; and works with the Alliance Board of Directors, which includes Members of Congress, state and local officials and top corporate and NGO executives, to establish and oversee the core objectives and strategic plans for the organization.

    Under Callahan’s leadership, the Alliance conducts policy, communications, research, education, and market transformation initiatives in the U.S. and more than a dozen other countries. The Alliance maintains a robust Associates program that includes more than 170 international businesses, associations and interest groups that support the organization’s mission. As well, the Alliance conducts international conferences, summits and other education and outreach forums to further its mission. Callahan serves as the principal spokesperson for the Alliance, appearing regularly before the Congress and the media, and addressing conferences and gatherings around the world. She is a trusted source for credible information on energy efficiency and its role in addressing the environmental, economic and national security issues associated with the use of energy.
